FAQs
When should I schedule Maternity or Newborn Photos?
As a general rule of thumb, I like to schedule your maternity AND Newborn session shortly after you’ve told friends and family the exciting news! But I try to leave room in my schedule for last minute bookings if you're reading this and you're 38 weeks pregnant! So if that's you, there's hope! If not, this will give us plenty of time to find a great day that works well and time for location scouting if you have any special requests for your maternity session, (for example if you really want a barn shoot or a lake shoot). Maternity photos are typically taken when you’re between 7 to 9 months into your pregnancy. Newborn sessions are scheduled within the baby’s first 7-12 days of life for sleepy poses and between 1-6 weeks old for lifestyle sessions, which are more relaxed, without pictures of your baby naked on props.
How many outfits should I bring to my shoot?
Two to four outfits is what I recommend for most of the shoots. I like to always have at least two outfits for variety’s sake, but whether you want to wear more than that is up to you. For Maternity shoots I always recommend Mamas wear under garnets like “Spanks” so that she feels comfortable changing dress/into jeans in a public area with no problems.
What should I consider when planning my outfits?
My biggest piece of advice is to wear something you feel good in! My second piece of advice is to choose clothing without words or distracting designs on them. The focus of the images should be your faces, not your clothing!
What about props for our Newborn session?
During our consultation, we will discuss props that I have available and what you’d be interested in using during our shoot. I have various backdrops, blackest and other items like bonnets, bow ties, and fun other layering items. I am also 100% open to you bringing your own props, especially when they are sentimental to you and your family!
What happens if the forecast says it’s going to rain the day we have an outdoor shoot?
Here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest it rains, and so that is definitely a possibility! I don’t think a little rain is a reason to cancel, because rain can make for some beautiful photos, just add in a few clear umbrellas! However, if you are uncomfortable with your photoshoot being held in the rain, and there is over a 50% possibility of rain forecasted, as of 24 hours before the shoot, then we will reschedule your session.
When will we get our photos back?
I have a 2 week turn around time! Because no one likes waiting! Weddings are the only exception. Since there are so many more photos to edit, I promise a 3-4 week turn around time, or sooner!
Do you do mini sessions?
YES! Rarely, but I do! I will warn you that while mini sessions may seem intriguring, the photos you want as keepsakes take a real session to capture. The emotions, connections, gut laughs, cuddles, and all the goofiness is what full sessions are for! Mini sessions do not allow us quality time to capture your family's personality in it's entirety. Mini sessions are in one, generic spot, for 10-15 minutes.
Do you give discounts?
No. Because this is a business, and I can't work for free. Thank you for understanding!
How do you take payments?
To book and lock in your session date, I require a 50% deposit. The remaining 50% can be paid the day of the session. I accept credit cards, checks, cash, and payment through paypal, square card, and venmo.
